As an artisan, my fascination with the ancient japanese techniques resulted in this uniquely crafted rustic mens wedding band.
I’ve spent months studying the various alloys that the swordmasters used in their creations, the different hammering techniques, the heating and cooling processes involved…In no way I could say that I mastered those intricate and complex set of skills, but it is a neverending journey.
This band is made of “Shakudo” – an elaborate alloy that is used in creating the ornamental parts of the Katana – the hilt guard(“Tsuba”) and other various parts like Menuki or Kozuka.
The alloy is achieved by mixing 24K gold, pure copper and some small amounts of fine silver. It is then patinated with Rokusho to achieve this black, matted finish.
The second part of the band is made of 14K solid gold. It creates a stark contrast with the tarnished Shakudo and can also be matted to follow the center’s muted color or mirror polished to achieve a greater separation. Both finishes look amazing and can be changed during production.
In the photos, the band is on a size 10 hand, matte finished rose(and yellow) gold and patinated Shakudo. It is also hammered in the center to achieve the Same-kawa appearance(shark skin detailing).
DImensions are: 9mm wide and 1,60mm thick.
